In my spare time I make movies.

I was trying to figure out a way to post some of the short video clips I've been making and genius Hacker Steph suggested You Tube. Yes Christopher, your sister now has videos on the same website as your favourite Japanese 'how to fold your shirt perfectly in 3 seconds' videos.

Naturally mine are not as exciting as most You Tube videos but the first one is one of the students, Yoshie singing this awesome country-dance song! (Mom and Dad - Click on her name and it will link you to the You Tube page).

Secondly, we have the opera choreographed fireworks in Toyota.

I hope everyone enjoys these. I will try to make more movies now that I know people can watch them!

First to write... awesome! Anyways, I checked out the clips, and I have to say, when I get out to Japan (and now that it's looking more possible as I mentioned over MSN about 5 minutes ago), we're going for karaoke. Done and done. You always said 'no' over here, but now it's on!

As for the fireworks... perdy.

The best part about the clips thing was that after I saw yours, other links started popping up on the screen. My personal favourite: How to open a bottle of beer the scandinavian way.

Here's to those crazy Scandinavians.
Cheers,
Fil

Yay, me! So glad Hacker Steph managed to prevail once more!

I think the best thing about karaoke in Japan is that even though the Japanese have this reputation of being so inhibited, I'm sure none of those people needed to get smashed in order to sing (in fact, I'm sure public drunkenness is extremely shameful - especially if you're a woman). The only way I'd sing in front of a room full of strangers (or even people I did not consider "close" friends) would be if I had extremely loud backup OR was several sheets to the wind!

Aw man, does this mean I have to go on MSN to talk to you? I always forget to log in (seriously) and I hate having it on when I'm working because I really don't need help being distracted...

Ooh! I see you're on Skype right now! Gotta go!

Laura!!

Your clips are amazing! Next time, do you think you could bring your camera to class with you, and give it to one of the students to use so that we can get a taste of "Ms.Elliott"?

Now, for the video-related questions:

1) Do you know the name of the song playing during the fireworks? I know that i've heard it before, that it's a really famous italian operatic song, but i just..can't..remember what it's called, and so can't download it (though also can't get it out of my head). I think the title is 2 words-long? Sounds like... ;)

2) How do you open beer the Scandinavian way? Once again, this sounds a bit familiar but my memory is lacking on the specifics... Does it involve using a lighter?
[and yes, this question would be more directed towards Fil, but hey, perhaps you've seen that clip too! i couldn't seem to find it]

Speaking of which, a friend from Tallinn explained "Estonian triathlon" to me: FIRST DAY: weightlifting, followed by orienteering, SECOND DAY: memory games. Aka, drinking!!

So, what time of day (in eastern standard, please!) are you most likely to be available to Skype? I don't generally keep the program on, but i guess i could make an exception...

Yo, Taryn. I believe that song is from La Bohème AND that you claimed it was on your copy of the Bend it Like Beckham soundtrack.

Oh dear... it's actually called "Nessun Dorma" and it's from the opera "Turandot". At least both "Turandot" and "La Bohème" are by Puccini... Hey! I never claimed to be an opera buff!

And on that note, I'm off to partake in the butter chicken I've made for dinner...

i KNEW there was a reason why it sounded so familiar.... and i was correct about the 2-word title, though perhaps not about much else...
